Nurses' prayers and other medical prayers

Nurses' prayers remind us of our spirituality, the need for guidance and wisdom, the nobleness of our task, the hope of our calling, the substance of our vision, and the source of our help. They are often found on plaques, bookmarks, mugs, greeting cards, and gift items.

I decicate myself to thee
This is my favorite Nurse's Prayer. It is from a bookmark I received in the mid 1960's when I was an aspiring would-be nurse.

Give to me the patience
Our unit manager found this poem and placed it in the med room of our nurses' station.

A nurses-aides prayer
A nurses' aide prays for compassion and guidance as she approaches her day at work.

As I care
This prayer is one of the most commonly used today. I have a cup with this prayer on it, and it is often used on gift items for nurses.

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
This prayer is not especially medically oriented, but we can certainly enhance our profession by seeking God's help in living according to these standards.

Prayer to start my day
A nurse prays for guidance and protection as she starts her day.

Dear Lord please give me strength
This 3 stanza prayer-poem begins, "Dear Lord please give me strength To face the day ahead...."

Dear Lord thou great healer
A two stanza prayer which begins, "Dear Lord, Thou great healer, May thy great strength and power Flow through me...."

Give to my eyes
Seven two-line stanzas. The first stanza reads, "Give to my eyes light to see those in need."

Lord please help me
This beautiful prayer begins, "Lord, please help me to bring Comfort where there is pain Courage where there is fear...."

Prayer of Moses Maimonides
This prayer is long, but it is worth reading! Who wouldn't want to be cared for by a physician with these aspirations?
